HENRY CHENG | | BA, MBA, DBA(HON), LLD(HON), GBS, HONORARY CHAIRMAN |  |  |  | In addition to his role for New World Hospitality, Dr. Cheng is also the managing director and executive director for New World Development Limited. He holds executive positions at New World China Land Limited, NWS Holdings Limited, New World Department Store China Limited, Taifook Securities Group Limited and International Entertainment Corporation, as well as non-executive positions at a number of listed companies in Hong Kong.
Dr. Cheng chairs the Advisory Council for The Better Hong Kong Foundation and is a standing committee member of the Eleventh Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of The People’s Republic of China. In 2001, he was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. |
| SONIA CHENG | | CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER |  |  |  | Sonia Cheng oversees the hospitality division of New World Group. She leads a team of seasoned industry leaders to develop New World Hospitality, an international hotel management company encompassing a portfolio of brands. She is responsible for overseeing New World Hospitality’s expansion plans regionally and internationally. She is also principal director of hotels of New World Development Company Limited and executive director of New World China Land.
Before joining New World Hospitality, Ms. Cheng worked with a major international investment bank and a global American private equity firm, specialising in real estate investments. She is currently a member of the Advisory Committee on Hotel and Tourism Management at The Chinese University of Hong Kong; a member of The Y. Elites Association; a member of Young Presidents’ Organisation and a member of Hong Kong United Youth Association. Ms. Cheng holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Mathematics with concentration in Economics from Harvard University. |
| SYMON BRIDLE | | CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER |  |  |  | Symon Bridle joined New World Hospitality as senior vice president – operations in 2009. Previously, he was with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts for 18 years where he held senior corporate management positions in development and operations divisions, leading both of these disciplines at various times, including as COO. He also held several general manager posts at leading Shangri-La Hotels. Mr. Bridle previously worked with Southern Sun Hotels and Westin Hotels in South Africa and in luxury hotels in Switzerland and Bermuda. He began his hotel industry career in 1980. |
| JOHN SHAMON | | SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, TECHNICAL SERVICES |  |  |  | Mr. Shamon leads the project development and engineering team in operation planning, design management and engineering development of all hotel renovations and future projects. Mr. Shamon has more than 34 years experience in the technical services field, including a post as group director of technical services for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, where he supervised the planning, interior design, project management and engineering functions for all new and existing Mandarin Hotels worldwide. Mr. Shamon was also 20 years at Hyatt, including a position as vice president, technical services for the Asia Pacific region. |
| DEXTER CHIA | | VICE PRESIDENT, SALES AND MARKETING |  |  |  | As vice president – sales and marketing, Dexter Chia oversees development and execution of sales and marketing strategies to establish a leadership position for New World Hospitality’s portfolio of brands. Mr. Chia was previously vice president, sales and marketing Greater China for Intercontinental Hotel Group, subsequent to various senior sales and marketing positions for Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in Asia Pacific and Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts in Singapore. He has more than 20 years experience in the Asia five-star hotel segment. |
| EDDIE LAM | | VICE PRESIDENT, ENGINEERING |  |  |  | Eddie Lam has more than 20 years experience in the hotel engineering operation and technical services field. He was previously vice president of technical services, Asia Pacific for Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts. He has worked on many new-build hotel projects in Hong Kong, China and Southeast Asia as a technical services consultant and successfully completed more than 20 reputable hotel projects including Le Meridien, Cyberport, Hong Kong and Le Royal Meridien, Shanghai. |
| FRANCIS LING | | VICE PRESIDENT, FINANCE |  |  |  | Francis Ling has over 25 years experience in accounting and financial management, with a focus in international luxury hotel groups. Mr. Ling’s most recent position was vice president of finance for Marco Polo Hotels Management Ltd. Previously, Mr. Ling held various executive positions in the Hyatt Group, culminating as director of corporate finance for Hyatt International - Asia Pacific, Ltd. |
| IVAN SUARDI | | VICE PRESIDENT, FOOD AND BEVERAGE |  |  |  | Ivan Suardi has more than 22 years experience in food and beverage, conceptualising new restaurants and supporting the technical and culinary aspects of luxury hotel food and beverage projects. Before joining New World Hospitality, Mr. Suardi was the director of food and beverage projects for Asia Pacific at Hyatt International. He was with Hyatt Hotels for more than 16 years in Hong Kong, Taipei, Manila, Almaty, Jakarta and Dubai. In addition to his native Italian, Mr. Suardi speaks English, French and German. |
| JAMES SIMMONDS | | VICE PRESIDENT - DEVELOPMENT, ASIA PACIFIC |  |  |  | Mr. Simmonds is responsible for sourcing management agreements and investment opportunities, including joint ventures, to support the aggressive growth of New World Hospitality’s portfolio of brands. Mr. Simmonds is an experienced professional in hotel asset management, development and investment. While with Mubadala Development Company in Abu Dhabi he managed development projects including MGM Mirage, Rosewood, Viceroy and Four Seasons hotels, and was responsible for international hotel investments in markets including London, New York and the Maldives. As asset manager at IFA Hotels & Resorts, he worked with Fairmont, Kempinski, Mövenpick, Raffles and Southern Sun hotel companies. A UK native, Mr. Simmonds began his career in London in Ernst & Young’s hospitality consulting division before moving to Deloitte’s corporate finance hospitality team. |
| OOI LAY PENG | | VICE PRESIDENT, HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT |  |  |  | Ooi Lay Peng has extensive experience creating human resource structures for new businesses. She formerly headed human resources operations for MGM Grand Paradise Limited in Macau. At Intel, Ms. Ooi was responsible for a division covering 20,000 employees in Costa Rica, Philippines, Malaysia and Shanghai and helped build One China HR that supported all Intel businesses in China. In 10 years with Hyatt International, culminating as director of human resources – North Asia, she was responsible for human resources activities in Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, Guam, Saipan and Australia. |
